Can you boot to the LiveUSB and post the output from
Code: [Select]
efibootmgr -v
again.

Okay, boot to the LiveUSB and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -Bb 0000
then
Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir /mnt/efi
then
Code: [Select]
sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/efi
then:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rvf /mnt/efi/EFI/ubuntu
now post the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo ls /mnt/efi/EFI
and
Code: [Select]
sudo efibootmgr -v
then confirm you can still reboot to Windows.

Okay, boot to the LiveUSB and fire up:-

Menu > System Tools > GParted

In the main pane, right-click on the /dev/sda6 partition and select "Swapoff"

Now right-click the /dev/sda6 partition again and select "Delete"

Now right-click on the /dev/sda5 partition and select "Delete"

When you're 100% sure you've marked ONLY the /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6 partitions for deletion click the "Apply" button.

Once GParted finishes applying those changes, close Gparted.

With Gparted closed, double-click the "Install Peppermint" icon on the desktop .. and work your way through the installation, allowing Peppermint to be installed in the free space.

Hello Mark, I followed your instructions to the letter and everything appeared to pan out. Installed pep 8 alongside windows boot manager in the installation
and followed the manager with no problems at all? But on rebooting after installation and removing the usb drive it booted straight to WINDOWS? checked the bios and windows boot manager is the last item in the list at no.8. But I have no option to boot onto peppermint 8 anywhere. I must be doing something wrong but cannot figure it out? Yours sincerely Norman. WHEN I BOOTUP THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN GOING TO A CHOICE OF WINDOWS 10 OR MACRIUM REFLECT, this has been the boot sequence since I started trying to install peppermint 8 do you think this may be the problem? Have tried all the options in these windows but no sign of Ubuntu?. yours Norman.

hi Mark, thanks for your reply, the laptop is an Acer. manufactured date 30.08.2016,model is Aspire ES1.571.P1VN. i am away this week on Thursday
with the motor home camping wild with no electric or internet connection so cannot contact you. Is it ok to get in touch with you after Easter back next Wednesday? I think I caused the laptop to boot this way Windows boot loader was first in the bios and I put it last to boot from the usb first. The laptop
booted ok after this but once over I think I hit F12 in error and it has booted to a choice of windows 10 with a countdown of 10 seconds or Macrium reflect. I dont know how to get rid of this. Was thinking of resetting win 10 but am not sure if this would help? yours Norman.

If you enter the BIOS, and go to the "Security" tab

then select "Select a UEFI file as trusted for executing" .. then hit enter.

then select "<EFI>" .. and hit enter

is "<ubuntu>" listed ?

if so select "<ubuntu>" .. and hit enter

then select "shimx64.efi" .. and hit enter.

then when asked if you want to "add a new file", type Peppermint .. then select "YES"

Then save the BIOS and exit.  <-- IMPORTANT

Hi Mark thanks for your patience. I entered the bios as per your instructions, but when selecting a eufi file as trusted for executing and pressing enter
the only option showing is HDD0? You must be getting a bit sick of my ignorance, I think in future I shall not be dual booting. Yours Norman.
