Problem removing a source
« on: November 17, 2018, 01:42:38 pm »
I'm trying to remove some sources which are causing problems but I am unable to.
The source I'm trying to remove is 'owncloud'

Ive used
Code: [Select]
grep ^ /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*
To get a list of sources, but when I use Discover to list the sources, 'owncloud' is not there.

I get; (I created a gap of a couple of lines so that what I'm trying to remove is easily seen, near the bottom)
(click to show/hide)

I don't know what to do to get rid of the entries.

Kubuntu 16.04LTS 64bit|KDE 5.36.0|QT 5.6.1|Linux 4.15.0-39-generic|M5A78L-M USB3|BIOS 2101|AMD PhenomII X4 965 3400+|P8H77-I Motherboard NIC|32.0GB PC3-10600 1333Mhz CL9 ( 9-9-9-24 ) DDR3

What's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
?

Because it looks like these are the two for owncloud:-
Code: [Select]
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/isv:ownCloud:desktop.list:deb [url=http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/desktop/Ubuntu_16.04/]http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/desktop/Ubuntu_16.04/[/url] /
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/isv:ownCloud:desktop.list.save:deb [url=http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/desktop/Ubuntu_16.04/]http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/desktop/Ubuntu_16.04/[/url] /

But be aware, simply removing the repo is unlikely to for a version/dependency issue on its own.

BTW, are you trying to set some kind of record for number of PPA's added (and subsequent dependency hell) ?

Re the number of PPA's, no not really, I noticed that too, arent there a lot identical, can we get rid of the unnecessary ones while were at it?

Deleting these 2 files will get rid of the owncloud repo
Code: [Select]
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/sv:ownCloud:desktop.list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/isv:ownCloud:desktop.list.save
the running
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
but rather than delete them you'd probably be better served just DISABLING them in synaptic .. or by commenting out their contents.

BTW, there are no duplicates .. only the repos, and their backups (that end with .save).

So, to see if they're all needed, what's the command I use to get a list of the programs they update?

Code: [Select]
grep ^Package: /var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_*_Packages
will list all packages installed from PPA's

or you can list the package repos by running
Code: [Select]
ls /var/lib/apt/lists
then list for example all the packages from say "ppa.launchpad.net_libreoffice_ppa_ubuntu_dists_bionic_main_binary-amd64_Packages" with
Code: [Select]
grep Package /var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_libreoffice_ppa_ubuntu_dists_bionic_main_binary-amd64_Packages

I'm not sure how to ask or do it, what I need to do is remove owncloud which is causing problems.

Impossible to answer without knowing the problem the owncloud repo is giving you

my last but one response tells you how to remove the repo .. but I suspect it's some packages installed via that repo that are your issue .. removing the repo won't uninstall the packages installed from it, that you'll need to do manually.

I get the error when I execute the following...
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
(click to show/hide)

Kubuntu 16.04LTS 64bit|KDE 5.36.0|QT 5.6.1|Linux 4.15.0-39-generic|M5A78L-M USB3|BIOS 2101|AMD PhenomII X4 965 3400+|P8H77-I Motherboard NIC|32.0GB PC3-10600 1333Mhz CL9 ( 9-9-9-24 ) DDR3

Add the key for the owncloud repo:
Code: [Select]
wget -qO - http://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/Ubuntu_16.04/Release.key | sudo apt-key add -
enter your password when prompted, then hit enter.

Also add this key because you don't appear to have the normal repo
Code: [Select]
wget -qO - http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:ownCloud:desktop/Ubuntu_16.04/Release.key | sudo apt-key add -

Now delete the getdeb repo because they've been abandoned:
Code: [Select]
cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v getdeb.list
then
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -v getdeb.list.save
now see if you get any errors from:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
