Toshiba Satellite Pro wifi
« on: August 02, 2019, 11:10:08 pm »
Hi All -
Ive been gifted a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70 laptop.  It's a bit old but in good nick overall.  Sadly, it will only run 32bit (not sure if there's a way to update it to 64bit?) so I've installed Linux Lite to get it up and running.  All seems ok at present except the dreaded wifi refuses to work!!  I was hoping it would be the old Broadcom solution but not this time - the wireless card is listed as PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection, vendor: Intel Corporation.

A web search hasn't provided much - I assume it's missing drivers but I've not found anything that helps.  Any advice would be welcome and thanks in advance!

Rich

Is your router/network named BTHub3-7CWX ?

Is your router/network named BTHub3-7CWX ?

You and me both!!  No, network is "VM132089-2G".  Clicking the icon brings up the network manager authentication box but even with the correct password, it just cycles through then returns the same box.  I tried deleting all instances and starting again but no joy.

It now shows the correct network but with 'never' alongside it and no amount of deleting/editing will remove the 'never'  ???

EDIT:  I just realised - the 'never' refers to 'never been used' not 'never use'.......... Duh!!

EDIT 2: I 'borrowed' a dongle from another machine and that connects up ok and an ethernet cable connection also works so why the onboard card  won't connect is a mystery..........

The 2200BG is a really old wireless adapter, maybe it simply doesn't like the wireless modes your router is using.

Maybe get one of these
https://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=13634.msg110608#msg110608
which are tiny so don't stick out of a laptop much .. they're also pretty cheap.
