Mark Greaves (PC Netspec) - Passing Away
« on: January 14, 2020, 01:18:21 pm »
Hi all,
Sadly Mark passed away earlier this morning 14/01/2020. He went peacefully but had problems a week or so ago with breathing and coughing so went hospital. They thought he was getting better but last night had to get more oxygen and painkillers to help him feel okay. This has meant that he passed peacefully.
I know he loved peppermint and the work he did for you guys really helped him. He had somewhere he belonged and it is down to you all, I can not thank you enough for the support you gave to him.
I am not sure who to contact so I am trying all forums and emails I can.
If you want to ask questions I am happy to help,
I know limited IT but I am kind of walking in his footsteps and will help any way I can.
He would want that.
Thanks,
Dan

I was just reading about this dreadful news on the Peppermint forums. My very deepest thoughts go out to you and your family Dan at this  awful time. He not only helped me, he also helped a load of people with his knowledge, expertise, passion for his work and his patience for people like me asking silly questions. I never knew him but he was like a dear friend and will be sadly missed.

Let`s take some time to remember him and his massive contribution to Peppermint and the Linux world.

R.I.P. Mark

I'm afraid I'm almost at a loss for words, Mark was one of the most of the likeable and helpful people I know and has done a massive amount for the community and in particular people who frequent these forums where he's answered everyone's questions and kept the peace for the these last 10 years. There's more on the Peppermint forums here; https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,9283.0.html
Mark - you will be sorely missed. R.I.P

This is very sad news indeed and our heartfelt condolences go out to Mark's family and friends at this difficult time.

I never knew Mark, but felt as though I did.  I came to Linux about 10 years ago and, as many do, stumbled on this site by accident whilst searching for information.  What a good day that was!  Mark was always prepared to help no matter how simple or complicated the issue and his advice and clear instructions were much appreciated by all.

I'm sure I speak for everyone who frequents these forums and has benefitted from Mark's expertise over the years in saying - Thank You Mark, for everything you have done in helping me to understand about Linux and for getting me out of the holes I had dug for myself.  May you rest in peace.

Rich

Deeply shocked when I read of Mark's passing, like so many other Linux users he helped me enormously even with the most basic of problems, always ready to help, the Linux world has lost one of it's most influential people, my condolences to Mark's family.

OMG!  Another one lost for words here  :( What sad news.

As many others, I came to Linux some years ago, actually from a Unix background, but I had forgotten most of that.

Mark was always brilliant, patient and super helpful, and I will miss him. I rarely needed to post a question as most of them had already been asked by some other poor confused user - and nearly all answered by Mark.

Thinking of his family and friends at this time.

RIP Mark.

I, too, am deeply saddened by Mark's passing.
It has been through his generous, patient and friendly support over several years that I have gained some small skill with Linux and I shall, like everyone, miss him greatly.
I offer my sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.

Keith

Mark was one of a kind. I still can't get my head round he's no longer here. He was always so helpful to me. He is so missed by all of us! I already expressed my condolences to his family and friends but again I say so sorry to them for their loss.

I'm the only woman on here and I've never felt unwelcome amongst all you clever computer guys even though I have asked some daft questions on here over the years!

You are not unwelcome Melissa. Why would you be? Only stupid men are misogynists, and by definition, Linux users aren't stupid...

By the way, I've asked some daft questions myself...
