Hello everyone,
I have a network of three Dell PCs running Windows 10 Pro build 19042.804.  They share and transfer files back and forwards OK.  I installed Linux Mint on one of them and now it doesn't network with the two other Windows 10 PCs. I managed to get files to the Linux PC using a solution (to do with gpedit.msc  permissions) by a solution from 3w.devanswers.co but they are Read Only when they arrive at the Linux machine and they don't send back.  I can see the Windows 10 PCs in the Network Places on the Linux PC.  I have spent ages trying the solutions on the Internet. The problem looks like SMB1 and permissions related.  I use SMB1 Client check-box ticked, in Programs and Features on the Windows 10 Pro machines.  Linux seems to be incompatible with Windows 10.  Linux Mint also doesn't like long names for folders and files.  Microsoft is the lead software.

When Windows had RPC Server  failures and Restore Point failures, it took TenForums ages investigating and I anticipate months or years re-jigging Linux Mint.  I looked at other Linux flavours including a peek into NetBSD and FreeBSD and got stuck in a text screen; ReactOS needs PS-2 mouse and keyboard (which I have) but the PC has no sockets for PS/2.

So: Question.

How can I keep in contact with Linux developments, relevant bug fixes and product updates for my Linux Mint PC? An image will be stored on a ExtHDD while I get on with house painting.  Is there a way of waiting proactively for an emailed notification?

Thank you everybody from SimonFastEddy

Hello Simon - and welcome to the Forum.

I can't comment on the bulk of your post but for your question: "How can I keep in contact with Linux developments, relevant bug fixes and product updates for my Linux Mint PC?" I suggest that you visit https://forums.linuxmint.com/index.php where you will find information on Releases, bugs, updates and other announcements - and much besides.
