In reply too your enquiry about "keyring" passwaords....well of course I put one in
....and now I cannot find out how to remove/change it
I will be back after I have clean installed and got as far as your last post...without all my mistakes and in the right order....
he he
...sorry just made me think of Eric Morecombe and Andre Previn, but I expect your too young too know who I'm on about.

I remember it well... Eric Morcombe and "Andrew Preview"... I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
Unfortunately I'm not as young as you think
If you delete all entries under the "Mobile Broadband" tab, this will clear ALL setting for the dongle (including keyring password) and then you can enter them again.

When this B***D* dongle connects I will lend you my zimmer frame and race you to the PUB
Right I have opened a terminal...am I supposed to see a joke and a (I think it is) cow???
Now I am not sure about this so be patient...do I type in "Code:[select]1susb" (without quotes)...i know this is old hat for you but my computing started after the Dos time and it was what kept me from Linux in the first place as I do not have a clue when it comes to Dos

No...just the stuff between the grey lines, and that isn't a 1 it's a small L... so it's LSUSB but in lower case, it MUST be in lower case as Linux commands are case sensitive.
[EDIT]
you won't find DOS here... BASH, ZSH etc. but not DOS
Nearly all of this stuff CAN be done in the GUI, but it's easier for someone at the forum to give you CLI commands... takes less typing, and I'm lazy be nature
Really it's because there is less room for misinterpretation.

If there is a line with
Huawei
in it... and just send me that line
you can ignore any lines that end in
root hub
if that helps

OK, I've found what the problem is... the device is VERY new so the device ID strings haven't been added to usb-modeswitch yet.
There are workarounds, but I'm going to have to do a bit of research first... if you want to check back this evening I'll have a solution for you.
this line -
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 19d2:0103 ONDA Communication S.p.A.
tells me the device hasn't been switched out of ZeroCD mode... if it had, it would have changed to -
Bus 001 Device 00x: ID 19d2:
0031
ONDA Communication S.p.A. ZTE MFxxx
you could try typing this into a terminal:
Code:
[Select]
eject
and then:
Code:
[Select]
lsusb
again to see if it changes.
If not let me know, then check back this evening

At least the device ID strings hadn't been added to usb-modeswitch as of late May 2010... but things move pretty fast in the Linux world, so if you run an update of Mint it might "just work".
to update Mint... click the
padlock
icon by your clock, enter your root password, and when the updater loads... click
Edit>Preferences
... in the "
Levels
" tab, put a tick in the "
Visible?
" box for Level 5, and click "
Apply
"
Now, back in the Update Manager... click "
Select All
", and then "
Install Updates
".
The reason I said to enable level 5 updates... to update the kernel, as there is a known switching issue for ZTE dongles in kernels 2.6.26 -> 2.6.28
This will update you to kernel 2.6.31
If you want to know which kernel version you currently have installed... open a terminal and type:
Code:
[Select]
uname -r
