You might want to take a look at the Help Wanted section on Sourceforge.net and see if any of the projects listed there interest you... posting are usually up for 2 weeks, so keep looking until something turns up that you can help with.

Hi Sajjan,

The other thing to do is look out for an opensource project you like, and ask the devs directly if they want help. Mostly, opensource development is not limited to one area (like london), most work in a distributed team across the internet. Make sure you can use IRC and mailing lists!
