Hi Again.
Have tried the Linux mint live DVD for a couple of days and loved it.
Last night I took the plunge and installed it onto two PC's, but gave them both the same name by mistake. Knew how to change it in windows, but at a loss as how to change it in Mint. Have searched the forum to see if someone else has had this problem with no luck.
The reason for this change is I want to install it on two more PC's and create a small home network.

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Input the following command and hit Enter:
gksudo gedit /etc/hostname

3. When prompted, enter the administrator password and hit Enter.

4. The hostname file will open, displaying the current computer name. Replace the current computer name with the desired new name.

5. Click Save, and close the window.

6. Back in the terminal
gksudo gedit /etc/hosts
when it opens, look for the line similar to
Quote127.0.1.1     Oldname

and change it to
Quote127.0.1.1     Newname

7. Click Save.

8. Close all open windows and restart your system.

After your system has restarted, it will have the new computer name.

9. To verify the change open a terminal, then type:
hostname
to view your new computer name.

Done :)

Once again thanks for the prompt reply.

Will try later, my son is on the other linux pc and is the one that needs the name change. At the moment he is getting all his music up to date, and I cant get near his machine.
