Can you recommend an email scanner
« on: April 30, 2011, 11:43:17 pm »
Hi to all,
Whilst excepting that getting a virus in Linux is unlikely checking incoming and out going email that has come from Windows/Mac based systems.

I have installed a email scanner program but am not happy.  There is no interface so I do not know if it is up-to-date  or working.

Can anyone recommend a program that allows the user to interact with the program?

Thanks in advance.

You could take a look at the clamtk package (a GUI front end for clamav), available (free) in the repo's:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install clamtk
that will also install the clamav backend scanner if not already installed.

Other than that, there is commercial AV software available for Linux such as AVG, Bitdefender, F-Prot, Avast, etc.

But unless you are using the Linux box as some kind of mail "server", why not just let the Windows boxes take care of their own AV mail scanning.

Any infected email you open on the Linux box is *highly* unlikely to affect Linux.

Thanks for the information, working well, I think it helps if all computer users do everything they can to stop the spread of virus infections.

Best Regards.

C:-) Like moving to Linux C:-)

If everyone did "everything they can"... Windows wouldn't exist... you've already taken the first step ;)
