Hi Mark,

I have an Acer Aspire One (with the linux linpus lite OS) A110.
I haven't used it for ages since getting my laptop, and because I could never connect it to the internet. However, just booted it up today and amazingly managed to connect it to the internet :) but i kept getting told on sites that my browser needed updating. I tried following the online prompts and what-not for installing the new firefox (and also google chrome, opera, and safari) but nothing happend and was still being propted to update the browser.
This was annoying as it meant I could view my emails on it etc.. so I found this walkthrough on how to upgrade it. I followed them through, copy and pasting the commands into the terminal run box, until it got up to naming the username and that command failed.
I then rebooted the netbook as the guide says and tried opening the browser assuming all was good and updated, BUT nothing happened!!!
I now have no browser after just managing to connect it!!! Arrrggg!!!
What do I have to do get my browser back and opening up and to update it (a fools guide would be welcome :) )???

Thanks
Andy

OK, did you read the first line of this topic ? ;)

This topic is now outdated... there are now instructions for installing Firefox 6 here:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/netbooks/install-firefox-6-on-an-acer-aspire-one-running-linpus-lite-linux/

Firefox 5 is no longer available for download .. so the wget command (to download it) would have failed.

Follow the instructions for Firefox 6 .. that *IS* still available .. once Firefox 6 is installed, in Firefox 6 go to Help > About Firefox and it should update itself to Firefox 7.0.1

BTW, to make things easier, you should still be able to start the original version of Firefox (2.0.0.14) by running this in a terminal:
Code: [Select]
/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.14/firefox

the post says that if the first code fails (mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins) just move onto the next one, however, this one didn't fail but the next one beginning with cd did. Do just move on to the next code?

Problem resolved in chat .. commands weren't being entered into a terminal.
