When I had some .gif images in a shared folder .. the Xbox displayed a couple of working pics, a couple of "no entry" symbols, then stopped displaying anything else .. even though there were 100's of pics in there .. removed the .gif's .. ALL were displayed.

Read into that, what you want ;)

Earlier in this topic the OP reported getting the same message, but the interface was obviously working, so as long as the connection is working .. just ignore that.

It has NO problem with my '/media/WinStorage' folder. Theres even unplayable content in there, as reported by the XboX when it tried to play the files.
It's having BIG problems with my other one, 'media/Win-Video' even with additional information added to is, such as 'media/Win-Video/Films/Films_0-9'
It just wont display ANYTHING other than the 'Win-Storage' folder???

media/Win-Video
and
media/Win-Video/Films/Films_0-9

Won't work because that's a non existent path .. add a preceding / so it reads

/media/Win-Video
or
/media/Win-Video/Films/Films_0-9

Also check the paths are the correct case .. Linux IS case sensitive.

Also, remember my warning about it stopping when it saw content it wasn't happy with.

It's found them but will ONLY display the files in the 'Win-Storage' directory/folder and not the 'Win-Films' one even though it says it found X amount of files there?

It looks like for some reason, I can only share ONE drive at a time even though it sees ALL the files.
Also, there are some types of '.AVI' and '.MP4'  it CAN'T play

OK as a test .. create a directory at /media/Win-Video/test .. and put a SINGLE film in it that you know works.

adjust the line in ushare.conf to read:
USHARE_DIR=/media/Win-Video/test

Reboot .. and test if it's seen .. if it is, re-read my warning.

then try:
USHARE_DIR=/media/Win-Video/test,/media/Win-Storage

this is the Xbox, not Ushare .. the Xbox just can't read some files, it doesn't have the codecs .. convert them with Arista using the XBMC Xbox preset.

Or go here:
http://www.transcoder.org/presets/create/
to create your own Arista preset .. then import it into Arista.

Iv'e taken note of what you said earlier.
I had a go at putting a folder with .PDF's and .TXT' in the one that I know works, theres even an .MPG in there and the contents all show up.
Are there any characters it doesn't like?

Sorry, but I haven't got a clue .. I no longer use Ushare as I share everything to my Xbox via a Linkstation Live NAS drive.

As I said .. create a test directory, and experiment .. that's all I can suggest  :o

I'm surprised by your statement that it can only use a single drive at a time, as Linux doesn't see drives as separate entities like Windows, it just mounts them as part of the directory tree .. ushare should just see the drives as folders that are part of the directory tree that starts at / .. if you get my meaning.

I still reckon that this is something to do with a file(s) ushare doesn't like being somewhere in the paths that it is indexing.

so start off with empty test directories set in ushare.conf .. then add things to those directories till you find one that doesn't show up, or makes other things disappear .. then re-encode that file if necessary (or leave it out).

As I said .. a .gif file stopped most of my pics showing up on the Xbox .. even though the command line said ushare was finding them all .. so I think this is more about the Xbox's behavior than Ushare's.

What would you recommend using?
I've been messing with Arista but if you know of a better one, I'll give that one a go...

Also... my autostart of ushare -x is tempramental, thats why I've been getting firewall warnings from my XboX.

Did what you said witha test folder.
I put one DIVX format file in there and it just showed the ONE file even though I had told it to share the 'Win-Storage' folder too

USHARE_DIR=/media/Win-Storage,/media/Win-Video/TEST

I then put ANOTHER DIVX format file in the TEST folder and it changes to just showing the contents of 'Win-Storage'

My guess would be that it's something on the Win-Storage drive that's messing things up then.

create a test folder on BOTH drives and put a single file in each .. adjust the ushare.conf .. restart ..  what happens then ?
