Another idea .. if you dont want the /home/<username>/Ushare directory to always be visible, would be to put a "." in front of its name, so it's hidden by default .. such as:-

/home/<username>/.Ushare

Put the symlinks in there .. and adjust the line in ushare.conf to:
USHARE_DIR=/home/<username>/.Ushare

If you've already created the symlinks, you don't have to recreate them .. just rename the /home/<username>/Ushare directory and change the path in ushare.conf

Then restart Ushare and the Xbox.

Also .. there IS a GUI method of making symlinks ..

Right-click on the file or folder you want to make a link to, and select Make Link .. you will then see a symlink with the same name but prefixed with Link to .. you can then move that link to wherever you want it.

So if you're in your home directory, and you want to create a symlink to Pictures and put it in your Ushare directory ..

1) right-click the Pictures directory, and select Make Link
2) right-click the newly created Link to Pictures symlink and select Cut
3) navigate into the Ushare directory.
4) right-click and select Paste

You can also use the middle mouse button to drag and drop a file or folder, you will then be offered a context menu that contains a Link Here option.

FYI .. Did you also know you can open another directory as a "tab" in Nautilus by middle clicking the directory.

You can just delete them through Nautilus, as they're in your home directory, so probably belong to you.

If I were you, I'd seriously consider ditching Ushare in favour of MiniDLNA .. but up to you.

what are the contents of your /etc/ushare.conf

and what directories do you want to share ?

I've found where they are after locating the '.Ushare' folder, as you can see in the pic, 2 are 'broken' so I'll delete them.
I want to share 'Drive 3' & 'Drive4' and the one that's already there, 'Win-MyDocs'
I found (on the side) 'File System' and a folder in there called 'media' and tried to share the drive's in there called'Drive3' & 'Drive4' but it had 'make link' greyed out.

use the chown command to take ownership of them.

But if I'm correct, you just want to delete those symlinks ?

if so, either delete them from the command line with elevated privileges:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm /path/to/symlink

or just start Nautilus with elevated privileges:
Code: [Select]
gksudo nautilus
then navigate to them and delete them.

You're posting this across multiple topics which is a little confusing .. I know I asked for "one issue per topic" .. but what I meant was "where possible".

in other words .. don't start a topic about wireless drivers, then when that's resolved, use the same topic to ask about sound drivers .. as they are unrelated.

this stuff IS related ;)

so could all really have gone under .. "Changing Ushare shared directories" or similar.

I'm trying to neaten the forum .. not fragment it ;)

Firstly .. I've merged your last few questions here :)

MiniDLNA is similar to Ushare, but smaller, better, and seemingly more compatible.

there's a tutorial on installing it on here somewhere.

I navigated to the folder and just highlighted and deleted them like that

Where is it need to go to select the whole 'drive' and create a symlink to share? I'm not 100% sure as I'm getting lost in the file/folder structure?

use the chown command to take ownership of them.

I'm sorry but even after looking at man chown I am still unsure on exactly what to type
How much pf the pathname do I enter
What '-' flags do I use

If you're sticking with Ushare ..

Let me know what you're trying to share

and the contents of
Code: [Select]
gedit /etc/ushare.conf

If on the other hand "where is it" means, where in the minidlna tutorial .. let me know, but I'll still need to know which directories you want to share, and the full path to them

Is this important now .. you've already deleted the symlinks ?
