OK, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo fsck /dev/sdc1

Then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/fstab

and make the last 3 lines read:
Code: [Select]
/dev/sdc1 /media/Drive1 ext4 defaults 0 0
# /dev/sdb1 /media/Drive2 ext4 defaults,user,locale=en_GB.utf8 0 0
# /dev/sdd1 /media/Drive3 ext4 defaults,user,locale=en_GB.utf8 0 0

SAVE the file.

Now run:
Code: [Select]
sudo mount -a

is there any output ?

if not, what is the output from:
Code: [Select]
mount

OK lets run fsck on the other 2 drives, then mount those .. I'm also going to switch to using UUID's in fsatb ..

First REBOOT .. and when rebooted, do NOTHING that may mount any drives, just open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo fsck /dev/sdb1
then
Code: [Select]
sudo fsck /dev/sdd1

Once those have completed, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/fstab

Edit those last 4 lines to read:-

Code: [Select]
# Mounted Drives
UUID=959cb526-06f8-4d5d-bec2-a6b42f438b07 /media/Drive1 ext4 defaults 0 0
UUID=40d97c21-aec9-48ed-a089-082c41024994 /media/Drive2 ext4 defaults 0 0
UUID=1e72a175-851f-43c3-a251-241d0e3800a7 /media/Drive3 ext4 defaults 0 0

SAVE the file.

Run:
Code: [Select]
sudo mount -a
(if there's any output, post it)

and post the output from:
Code: [Select]
mount
and
Code: [Select]
sudo blkid

So they're all now mounted at boot up ?

if so, tell me if they are writeable .. can you create a file/folder on them ?

Do they appear in the left panel of nautilus ? .. and/or on the desktop ?

Yes, they’re on Nautilus as mounted but, I can copy to all but Drive1

OK, you should "currently" have no problem copying/creating/moving stuff on Drive1, but ONLY in the home/pete idrectory on that drive .. the rest is still owned by root.

I take it the plan is eventually to delete all the old 11.10 "system stuff" from that drive ? .. and move the "user" stuff to the root of the drive ?

But before we change ownership of the root of the drive .. I need you to confirm that you understand this will be the END for 11.10 (as a bootable/fixable OS).

And just to be sure .. what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
ls -al /media/Drive1
?

OK, open a terminal and run:

Code: [Select]
sudo chown -R pooky2483:pooky2483 /media/Drive1
then
Code: [Select]
sudo chmod -R 755 /media/Drive1

Can you now write to ANYWHERE on Drive1 ?
