ATI IGP 340M (R200) 3D Acceleration

Has anybody ever managed to get 3D acceleration working on an old ATI mobility Radeon 7000 IGP (IGP 340M)?

Nope, I’m afraid I avoid ATI cards like the plague.

Nvidia only here.

Have to agree never been a big fan of ATI gfx cards always been Nvidia

I got given this Laptop, it would be nice to be able to get 3D acceleration working…

As for new laptops -

Normally I would agree with you, but since the nVidia GPU thermal issues debacle there aren’t that many nVidia chipped laptops on sale at the moment… OEMs still seem to be steering clear, and actually I can’t blame them.

the one thing that stuck out in that article was

While R200 product support still does exist in a driver branch after being discontinued in the fglrx 8.28 release, AMD has no plans to release an updated R200 class driver. AMD's belief behind this is the open-source community was given the needed specifications a number of years ago and the X.Org Radeon driver is reasonably well supported (except for TV-Out due to Macrovision).

I guess this is a bad thing for you and your lappy

I read somewhere that people had got 3D working with either kernel patches, or weird settings in Xorg.conf, but can’t find the pages ATM… I’ll find em eventually
