Cancel login Password (Solved)

Trying to cancel Password login on Peppermint.

Have ticked the box in user/groups but it still asks for Password. ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile:

Jocklad.

Run:

sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Now look for the line

autologin-user=

and add the username of the account you want to auto-logins
eg.

autologin-user=mark

SAVE the file … reboot to test

Here’s mine for comparison

[SeatDefaults]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=mark
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin

Just got an error Mark:

ben@ben-Dell-DV051 ~ $ sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

(gedit:1881): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files
ben@ben-Dell-DV051 ~ $

Ignore the gtk warning (it’s unimportant and safe to ignore) … I take it the file opened ?

The file opened…It was a blank page.

Jocklad

Are you sure you entered the command correctly ?

Just tried it again.

Gedit opens with a blank page with cursor.

Jocklad

what’s the output from:

ls -a /etc/lightdm

and

cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

ben@ben-Dell-DV051 ~ $ ls -a /etc/lightdm
. lightdm.conf lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf users.conf
… lightdm.conf.d lightdm-gtk-greeter-ubuntu.conf
ben@ben-Dell-DV051 ~ $ cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
ben@ben-Dell-DV051 ~ $

OK, assuming “ben” is the user you want to automagically log in … run:

sudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

and make it read:-

[SeatDefaults]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=ben
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin

SAVE the file.

Reboot to test.

Yes that did it Mark.

No password login…

Many Thanks.

Jocklad.

You’re most welcome
