It’s a dual band router which can work with 2.4 or 5ghz adapters. I think the issue here is that I don’t have a valid chipset for the driver that is being used. In addition, I can’t get a vaiid MAC address registered in order for this adapter to be recognized by my router. I really appreciate all the efforts you have supplied to try to get this adapter working, but I think I’m SOL.
I will work with the vendor that I bought the adapter from and see, if I can return it for another one. if I get the same problem, then I will chalk it up to this adapter just is not going to work with my hardware.
Just a side note, I also tried to get this adapter working with Windows 7 using the supplied Window drivers and it also has the MAC Address problem. So on two different computers and two different OS’s, this adapter does not work.
The closest I could find to turning off 5ghz was to hide the 5ghz SSID. After unplugging and plugging in the adapter I get the same error message that I posted with the last dmesg | tail -n 25.
Well whether it’s hardware or just that the adapter doesn’t like your router, I guess you ARE SOL as you put it … try to swap it for another brand if you can.
seems it DOES work with 5ghz … but doesn’t like high channels … is it possible to do what the dmesg output asked and select a lower channel in the router ?

It might also be a good idea to restart the router after changing channels … normally this isn’t necessay but the guy with the “Airplay” router said he needed to … so can’t hurt
I get the feeling this is a 5ghx problem, and the firmware getting confused … possibly that there’s a certain component on that particular adapter that just plain doesn’t like your router.
