Convewrting AVI into MPEG4(Solved)

Hi Guys,
I want to convert some home video, (holiday type stuff) from AVI to MPEG4 so that it will hopefully play from a USB stick on my Sony Bravia TV, your suggestions would be most appreciated. I would prefer the simplest of solutions in order to carry out this task.

You are aware that AVI might already be MPEG4 ?

Here’s what I’d use for conversion…

sudo apt-get install winff

then use WinFF and try setting it to:-

Convert to: AVI
Preset: XviD Widescreen

(that works on most devices, including my TV’s and Xbox 360’s)

or maybe

Convert to: MPEG-4
(just choose one)

or maybe

Convert to: PS3
Preset: 720 Widescreen

or maybe

Convert to: WMV
Preset: Xbox 360

or create your own profile.

In most cases (to save having to convert a whole video for testing) you can convert say the first few minutes … then stop the conversion … and test the partially complete output file.

Thanks Mark, tried your suggestion but this what came up:

Your comments would be appreciated,

Hi Mark,
Tried again using the Preset Xvid Widescreen and that did work fine so once again thank you very much for your help.
I will mark this topic solved.

Cool
