Driver for an old scanner

Can anyone suggest where I can get a driver for my oldish Epson Perfection 1204U scanner. The supplied disk will not load and Epson can’t help.

Cheap scanners that work with Linux are in very short supply … the HP all-in-one’s work well, but apart from that I’ve an Epson V300 but I can’t make it work under Linux. Unfortunately, many of the companies who make cheap scanners are the very companies who seem to be trying quite hard not to support Linux … (Epson, Lexmark etc …)

There doesn’t appear to be much information about using the 1204U in Linux online.

But you might want to take a look at this… don’t know if it will help, but worth a go

You will need to change the manufacturer and product ID strings… you can get this by entering:

lsusb

into a terminal

also… you don’t say which distro you are using… if it’s Ubuntu, you will find rc.local at
/etc/rc.local
and not
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
as in the above article.

And make sure you have xsane installed.
