How to install kernel 3.3.0 & NVIDIA 295.33 graphic card drivers.

I separated this into 2-parts. First part is for 32-bit users, second part for 64-bit users.

WARNING: I'm not responsible if you install this and break your system. Kernel 3.3.0 is a non-stable kernel, and is highly experimental. For a stable release kernel use 3.2.12. You should remove any additional proprietary drivers before installing the kernel to be on the safe side.

This tutorial is for Debian-based distros only such as Ubuntu, Peppermint, Mint, etc, although it should be easily translated for Redhat distros.

For those updating to 3.3.0 and use NVIDIA drivers, you WILL have to update them to 295.33

Part 1 video:

32-bit Terminal commands:

cd /tmp && wget -O linux-headers-3.3.0-030300_3.3.0_all.deb http://goo.gl/B4JLM
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.3.0-030300_3.3.0_all.deb
cd /tmp && wget -O linux-headers-3.3.0-generic_i386.deb http://goo.gl/rzAJq
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.3.0-generic_i386.deb
cd /tmp && wget -O linux-image-3.3.0-generic_i386.deb http://goo.gl/oAp4X
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-3.3.0-generic_i386.deb

Installing the NVIDIA 295.33 graphic card driver

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

REBOOT and when you log back in, type into terminal:

uname -r

Which should give the following output:

3.3.0-030300-generic

Part 2 video:

64-bit Terminal Commands:

cd ~
mkdir kernel-3.3
cd ~/kernel-3.3
wget -O linux-headers-3.3.0-030300_3.3.0_all.deb http://goo.gl/B4JLM
wget -O linux-headers-3.3.0-generic_amd64.deb http://goo.gl/7wCbs
wget -O linux-image-3.3.0-generic_amd64.deb http://goo.gl/IuULZ
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Installing the NVIDIA 295.33 graphic card driver

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

REBOOT, and you should be good.

To check your kernel version:

uname -r

You should get:

3.3.0-030300-generic
