I am using Oracle Linux 6.5. Due to BAD ENTRIES in FSTAB , when machine is trying to start FSTAB error occurred on startup and Linux machine is unable to login.
its ask me for ROOT password to enter in maintenance mode so when i enter in FSTAB it does not allow me to WRITE or make any changes.
when you enter Maintenence mode
sudo nano /etc/fstab
You should then be able to edit your fstab file
If it’s starting in recovery mode, you’ll need to remount the partition containing fstab read/write … it will likely have been mounted in read only mode
let’s assume fstab is a suddirectory of the / partition … try running
mount -o rw,remount /
now see if it’s mounted read/write
