Linux Mint with Win 10 dual boot

Hi
I want to install Linux Mint 17.3 on my Lenovo G50-80 laptop with Win 10, now if i begin to install Linux it :

  • Doesn’t find any previous win.
  • Also it finds whole my HD, not partitions !
so if i want to install Linux i must erase all my HD not just Drive C: ?
    any help please? thanks

That’s weird ?

Can you boot to a Live session of Mint, then open a terminal and post the output from:

sudo blkid

Thanks for replay
when i open Linux my wireless stop working after few seconds, and i read you explain that by running these 3 lines

sudo modprobe -r ideapad-laptop
sudo rfkill unblock all
rfkill list

so its ok for me too?
thanks

Hi
The output of the command line is:

mint@mint ~ $ sudo blkid

/dev/loop0: TYPE=“squashfs”
/dev/sda1: LABEL=“System Reserved” UUID=“32B2E8AAB2E8742F” TYPE=“ntfs”

/dev/sda2: LABEL=“Win 10” UUID=“34A2F5D6A2F59C94” TYPE=“ntfs”

/dev/sda3: LABEL=“University” UUID=“BED2A5EBD2A5A85B” TYPE=“ntfs”

/dev/sda4: LABEL=“Linux” UUID=“C0CC3BBACC3BAA14” TYPE=“ntfs”

/dev/sr0: LABEL=“Linux Mint 17.3 MATE 64-bit” TYPE=“iso9660”

/dev/sdb1: LABEL=“RECOVERY” UUID=“F028-EC0F” TYPE=“vfat”

when i open my computer in Mint i can see all my drives but when i install Mint i got whole my 1 TB without my partitions.
** by the way the WIFI command is working perfectly, thanks

Ahh…

Is this an older PC (Non-UEFI) that’s been upgraded from Win7 to Windows 10 ?

Can you boot Linux Mint again and post the output from:

sudo fdisk -l

sudo modprobe -r ideapad-laptop
sudo rfkill unblock all
rfkill list

so its ok for me too?

Whilst it won’t hurt anything it’s probably not the correct fix for your laptop … I doubt if it has the ideapad-laptop module loaded in the first place.

So can you also post the output from:

sudo lshw -C network

and

lspci -vnn | grep -i net

Hello:
you’re right its from Win 7 to Win 10 , but its new laptop with Core i 7 5500,
now i enter Linux Mint but it refuse to mount the drives so i just take a photos and i hope its OK
first picture for HD
network 1 , 2 for network output
thanks

Okay, firstly can you not attach images to forum postings unless specifically asked to do so by the forum admin … insted host them online somewhere such as:
Imgur
tthen post links to them here.

Now to the problem … it seems that because you installed Windows 7 on a hard drive with a GPT partition table it has created “dynamic” partitions (SFS) … it seems Linux can’t handle these.

Your only options are to either:-

a) attempt to use something like EASYUS to convert partition types as suggested here:

but I have no idea if this would destroy windows of not … or even if EASYUS can do this.

or

b) to wipe your HDD, then reinstall Win10 from scratch before installing Mint.
(you won’t need to install win7/8 first because you can now export your Win10 key)

I’m sorry about the pictures because my drives doesnt mount in linux.
let me check converting the partitions…
but what about the wifi?

http://imgur.com/a/qcsyC

I convert my drive to basic using Partition Wizard , the Windows is alive but Linux still sees the whole drive, so I think I will remove all partition and install Mint, thanks for help my friend

The issue with wifi dropouts with that card is fixable … I know this because both my HP’s have the same RTL8723BE network adapters as yours.

It’s a simple case of running this command once you’ve installed Mint

echo "options rtl8723be fwlps=0 ips=0"| sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf

and entering your password when prompted.

Have you extracted your Win10 key yet so you can easily reinstal Win10 later if you choose ? … do you need/want help with this ?

NO , i can handle this
appreciate your very kindly support

Anytime … that’s what I’m here for

Hello again,
I removed my windows and install new Linux Mint, but the problem of wifi still, it doesn’t connect

Okay, can you post the output from:

sudo lshw -C network

and

lspci -vnn | grep -i net

and

iwconfig

and

sudo iwlist scan

and

rfkill list

and

cat /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf

How can I send you the result? I don’t have net in my laptop, just in my phone… And the results is huge

firstly, have you rebooted since running the command I gave you to fix the wireless ?

Secondly, is your router set to wireless “N” only ? … if so try setting it to b/g/n

and thirdly, can you temporarily turn off wireless security in your router … and see if your laptop can connect.

Of that still doesn’t help, re-enable wireless security and post the output from:

ping -c 3 216.58.213.174

and

ping -c 3 google.com

Can I also suggest you set your router to use a different channel … there are 6 routers using Channel 1 in your immediate vicinity … you should really go for 4 or 8, that’s at least 2 channels seperation form anyone else.

yes after i put the command line i reboot the pc and now its better but if i download something large wifi drop.
now let me check your suggestion and back

my laptop cant connect to router after i remove the security.

ping output :
