Network Manager icon vanished! (Resolved)

I am running mint 17 64 bit mate. The Network Manager icon has vanished from the task bar.

I have no way to interact with the network manager so can not change to my VPN or mobile networks.

I have a internet connection and have reinstalled all the network manager components via the package manager.

Any assistance would be helpful.

Many thanks.

Does it appear if you run:

nm-applet &

?

If not, what’s the output from:

ps aux | grep [n]m-applet

?

Have you tried a reboot?

  1. Rebooting has no effect.

  2. nothing happens after running “nm-applet &”

  3. userone@Office2 ~ $ ps aux | grep [n]m-applet
    userone@Office2 ~ $

How about

sudo apt-get install --reinstall nm-applet

userone@Office2 ~ $ sudo apt-get install --reinstall nm-applet
[sudo] password for userone:

N: Ignoring file ‘getdeb.list.bck’ in directory ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.d/’ as it has an invalid filename extension
E: Unable to locate package nm-applet
userone@Office2 ~ $

run:

sudo updatedb

then post the output from:

locate nm-applet

also post the output from:

dpkg -l | network-manager

You might want to try reinstalling network-manager-gnome

sudo apt-get install --reinstall network-manager-gnome

(which contains nm-applet)

The log off/on (or reboot)

if that makes no difference, now what happens if you run:

nm-applet &

and

ps aux | grep [n]m-applet

Reinstalling worked and all now back to normal.

I do not understand how it vanished in the first place.

Thanks to all for your assistance.

No worries, thanks for marking it solved.
