Peppermint 3 stuck update

HI Mark,
I am struggling to post a message and could only do it sending this to you

I have an Acer Aspire One and happily updated to Peppermint 3 OS 6 months ago.
I have been installing updates regularly since then.
Yesterday I encountered a problem:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘sudo dpkg --configure -a’ to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I am out of my depth.
Would someone please tell me what to do.
Thank you.
Kevin

Hi woodward

Open the terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T) copy and paste the following command

sudo dpkg --configure -a

you’ll be asked for your password, enter your password

hopefully that will fix the problem, if not let us know

Good luck

Graeme

After that, I’d run

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
just to pick up any outstanding updates that have been missed
