Printer drivers

My Canon computer printer started giving trouble, printing jagged lines. Some time ago I bought an HP fr2180 printer cheap on eBay as a spare. After all the aggro with the Canon that I had getting it to run properly with Linux Ubuntu, I was dreading the same thing with the HP drivers. Windows XP and Windows 7 downloaded the printer drivers onto the two separate caddies easily, which is what I expected. Then I had to download onto the two Ubuntu versions on two other caddies. Boy, was I surprised. I was amazed how easy it was to download the HP printer drivers onto the Linux systems. My heart was elated as the anticipated stress melted away. From now on I will always use HP.

Hi Bill

I understand your fear about installing a printer, I think it’s one area where linux support can be a little bit patchy but from what i believe HP offer the best support for Linux systems of all the Printer manufacturers so I’m not surprised you found it a simple matter to install your printer, having said that I have 2 Samsung printers one at home and one in my office at work and installing them was a piece of cake

Just to add to what Emegra said, I have just installed the drivers for Brother MFC-J6510DW (multi function wireless network printer/scanner) and it was a breeze. Clear & concise instructions on the Brother site.

Yeah things are certainly improving, but Canon still seem to be lagging behind ::slight_smile:

hp still seem to be the best for linux says a cannon user
