Printer problems under Ubuntu 12.04

Ok, back in from work, and the temps are round about 31 on the left of the keyboard/ bottom left of the case. Underneath, everywhere but the hard disc cover is about 40, but the hard disc, “measured” thru the grating is about 46. Better than before, dare I say it, much better than before!

Printing wise, there are still errors from CUPS, saying “error connecting to device”, but then the printer does its thing, chucks a document out, and then CUPS says, “document printed” . I have attached the latest error log to see if that helps, (?).

Is that message appearing because you have 2 printers installed ?

I take it there’s only 1 printer listed at:-
http://localhost:631/printers
?

Yep, only 1 printer listed…

Well that’s got me baffled then  … if/when it becomes too annoying we can have another go at finding where that error’s coming from if you like.

Possibly a “time out” somewhere that needs lengthening to give the printer time to wake up and respond.

Have you given the printer a static IP ? … if not, at some point it will get a different IP from your routers DHCP server and stop working until you change the IP in CUPS again.

Hi Mark - Yep, have given the printer a static IP - been there before with the dell (!) - I thought the same about the wake up time - the brother has “energy star” compliance, so when it goes to sleep, it is nearly off, to save as much 'lectric as possible, so not an unreasonable error in the circumstances…

Is there a way of lengthening the time, do you know, please?

thanks again!

Not that I know of ATM, I was just speculating … but I’ll see what I can find
