Screen resolution

Hi there everyone.
Not a regular visitor here but for a very good reason, I never have any problems with Peppermint, ever.
I am only here now for a quick question and probably a very obvious answer. I have recently got a new monitor so I can work from home while linked into the office PC but am being forced to use windows at the moment because I cant get the screen resolution any higher than 1024x768 in Peppermint and this won’t allow me to see the whole of the software screen when linked in to work. Is there any way to set/force the resolution to 1920x 1080?

Think I might have got this

 1. First step to create modeline. To add resolution of 1920x1080, open terminal and type:

cvt 1920 1080

This will create modeline for resolution of 1920x1080 which will look something like this:

1920x1080 59.95 Hz (CVT 1.44M9) hsync: 55.99 kHz; pclk: 118.25 MHz

Modeline “1920x1080_60.00” 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync

These numbers may vary according to your monitor.

 1. To add this resolution to monitor settings, type the following highlighted commands one by one:

xrandr --newmode “1920x1080_60.00” 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1083 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync

(values after xrandr --newmode (coloured purple) to be pasted from second line of generated values from cvt command from your own computer (coloured green), don’t copy from here. In other words, after writing xrandr --newmode in terminal, copy the output of cvt command from its second line (green) excluding word Modeline upto its end and paste it after xrandr --newmode. )

xrandr --addmode VGA1 “1920x1080_60.00”

Where VGA1 is changed to your monitor output, s-video, HDMI etc
After these steps, resolution of 1920x1080 will appear under the list of various resolutions available in display settings.
I’ve selected the new display settings in Menu>Preferences>Monitor settings and they work fine, also selected save settings configuration. Don’t know if it will be persistent across a reboot yet though.

So, rebooted this morning and it’s not persistent.
I’ll have to look into this when I get home.
