Thanks will do that later!
Well I’ve done that and it kept on doing test after test so I pressed escape to get back to booting the laptop up. I didn’t see anywhere that said errors.
Does it freeze when you’re using anythoint OTHER than Chrome ?
Well that is the browser I am using, so hard to tell Mark. I’m always online when using the laptop. I’ve done some reading and this sort of problem seems to be what many people have using computers- them running out of memory/stalling etc and computer forums say it must be the browser ( whether it be Chrome or Firefox ) and that browsers use up a lot of memory! I’ve seen posts with people having this same problem as myself with 6 GB of RAM and just 4 tabs open!
Seriously I’ve never seen an “out of memory” warning in Linux … so I’d still like to know where it’s coming from.
And I’m not asking if other browsers also cause the issue … i was trying to figure out if it was purely Chrome orr the system itself … so I was asking if the system is flaky ONLY when running Chrome, or if it’s flaky when doing other things like say playing music with VLC or using libreOffice, etc.

Unlikely unless their browser (or possibly a plugin) has a major memory leak … do you use any Chrome extensions ?

I know what you were asking mark- asking the same things myself! Well the Dell has gone crazy at the moment- see my new post. Looks like something has crashed- I dunno! Anyway this will be in the past tense- it was fine when playing music in Audacity, Libre Office worked fine. What the problem was when opening pics, downloading pics, surfing etc. After awhile the memory monitor would come up. Yes, it does seem to be linked to a browser probem but this is not limited to Chrome Firefox users report the same thing as well from reading about this online.

I do use Chrome extensions yes as I need them for what stuff I want to do online. Well there must have been a memory leak then. But the laptop is now useless!
