Unstable network connection

On that PC it could be the hardware decryption … which is why I suggested disabling it

Well if that’s the case then there’s no harm in trying that now to see if it improves the download speed if it has an adverse effect then all I have to do is reboot ?

Graeme

pat@Linux2 ~ $ sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci
[sudo] password for pat:
pat@Linux2 ~ $ sudo modprobe rt2800pci nohwcrypt=1
sudo: unable to resolve host Linux2
pat@Linux2 ~ $

so what happens if you now run:

sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci

then

sudo modprobe rt2800pci
pat@Linux2 ~ $ sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci
pat@Linux2 ~ $ sudo modprobe rt2800pci
sudo: unable to resolve host Linux2
pat@Linux2 ~ $

The first command disconnected the network, the second command re-connected

OK, dunno why you’re getting the sudo error message … but sudo is obviously working

Run these again

sudo modprobe -r rt2800pci

then

sudo modprobe rt2800pci nohwcrypt=1

and see if the download speeds have improved.

OK I would say there’s no significant change after the changes,

running the speed tests are naturally inconsistent anyway so I ran the test 3 times with and without the changes

before changes 13.12mb/s 6.55mb/s 10.05mb/s average 9.90mb/s

after changes 11.10mb/s 13.05mb/s 10.90mb/s average 11.68mb/s

so although I had a slightly faster average after the change the highest speed was achieved without the change

I’m not really sure if this is even a problem the download speed is naturally higher than I previously reported and the internet is working fine and seems fast enough it’s just that compared to the other PC’s on the same network this PC (Linux2) is showing significantly slower download speeds, I took the same average readings with the other 2 PC’s and the averages are Linux1=43.00mb/s & Linux3=29.84mb/s

Well if it’s currently working, probably best to leave alone for now then

That sounds like a cunning plan

Thanks again
