Which is the best laptop?

Since my Chromebook will not charge up and is at the computer repair shop ( and most likely dead so the fella won;t be able to get it working) I urgently need a new laptop as this netbook has a teeny screen which i have great trouble seeing ( I am getting eyestrain) and it’s sloooooww- I need to get another laptop which would not be a problem if I wasn’t currently unemployed and broke!
I have seen 2 second hand laptops which I could just about manage to buy as long as I live on rice and beans for a month.

Which one is the best?

  1. ACER.
    Extensior 5630EZ
    Intel Pentium Dual Core
    2.00 GHz
    2,GB memory
    Hard drive: 120 GB
    15.4 INCH SCREEN
    OS- Win 7
    £89.

  2. TOSHIBA.
    Satellite Pro c660-167
    Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T6670
    2,048 (1x) MB, DDR3 RAM (1,066 MHz)
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    15.6 INCH screen
    OS- Win 10.
    £60

Of course I’d want to get rid of Windows and get P7/8.

Specification wise the Toshiba … although we obviously can’t make a judgement about condition.

Thanks Mark. The Acer I’ve seen up close and the condition is ok- but keyboard needs a bit of a clean but it’s one of those old fashioned ones that are ace for typing on. The Toshiba does look better all round and is cheaper too. I phoned and left a message and also an email through Gumtree. I’ll find out if it has 2 GB of RAM. I would plan to get more RAM added at a later date. But then if you think that this netbook with 1GB of RAM and a teeny SSD can take P7, then either of thse surely would.
But then maybe the Polish computer guy can fix whatever is wrong with my Chromebook- I do hope so. i really miss it.

A system with 1GB would run Peppermint (Peppermint 7 uses less than 300MB for the OS itself at bootup) but as soon as you start web browsing (particularly with multiple tabs and flash) it’s strat to struggle.

2GB is MUCH better, but web browsing seems to be getting heavier by the second … so I’d be happier with 4GB

More RAM is always a bonus, altho my Chromebook seems fine on 2GB of RAM. The computer guy looked at my netbook and tried about 7 different RAM boards and it didn’t accept them- its limit is 1GB of RAM. However, I wouldn’t be doing a lot of web browsing on the netbook- I mostly use it for my scanner, watching vids and accessing other files off my Maxtor and other portable hard drives, playing Tux Racer. Now my Chromebook is booted up and fixed ( the slot for the charging cable needed mending) I won’t be on the netbook much again.
