What happens now if you run:

sudo modprobe wl

?

Haha !!! yes ! wireless is on !
Thinks a lot man !

You’re welcome :slight_smile:

hey
i have the same problem but can’t solve it since the patched file was removed (i guess)
so the adress http://elektronenblitz63.de/download/bcmwl-kernel-source_5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3_amd64_ID4365.deb isnt working any more…
i searched in google but can’t find this file anywhere else :-\

could you please help me, to get my wireless card running?

Yup, seems the precompiled/packaged .debs have disappeared …

See if one of these .deb files work:
(they need the linux-image-generic and build-essential and dkms packages pre-installed)

For 32bit:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11876059/wireless-bcm43142-dkms-6.20.55.19_i386.deb

for 64bit:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11876059/wireless-bcm43142-dkms-6.20.55.19_amd64.deb

Or try compiling and installing one of these:

32bit:
http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/13/28/2865859-hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_112_ptached.tar.gz

64bit:
http://media.cdn.ubuntu-de.org/forum/attachments/40/28/2865859-hybrid-portsrc_x86_64-v5_100_82_112_patched.tar.gz

source:
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/w-lan-acer-4820tg-broadcom-installation-schlae

Thank you very much, i followed the link and the instructions to install the patched driver package :slight_smile:
works fine now
you are the best :slight_smile:

Glad to hear you got it working.

And you’re welcome … not that I did much :slight_smile:

What distro/version ar4e you using ?

thnks for the reply… really grateful … however im really sorry i dnt know how to remove the following tht uve suggested …
And how do i see which distro/version im using… when i strt up the device i get an option of Ubuntu 3.2.6 … is tht of any help ???

im new to linux but im a fast learner …

OK, before we go any further, can you post the output from:

cat /etc/*release*

this is what i got …

root@bt:~# cat /etc/*release*
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS"

also be advised tht im using an acer 5750Z laptop … just wanted you to know about tht …
thnks again fr u time and support …

Firstly, you appear to be running an old version of Ubuntu that no longer recieves any updates … don’t you think it would be a better idea to wipe the HDD and install a more recent distro ?

Anyway … let’s start from the beginning …

Open a terminal and post the output from these commands:

sudo lshw -C network

and

lspci -vnn | grep -i net

and

iwconfig

and

ifconfig

and

iwlist scanning

and

rfkill list

Im not sure about the version tht im using however since u say its old il update it soon :slight_smile:
Following is the output tht i got from the commands u gave me to execute :
