Recently I’ve been watching a lot of Criminal Minds which is about a special team of FBI profilers one of the team members is a computer analyst (Penelope Garcia) with this super duper computer that can give her the names and addresses of everyone in the United States that’s short sighted, dresses to the left and has a dog called BOB
Penelope and her computer feature quite a lot on the show and the more I watched it the more convinced I was that this was a Linux computer so I checked it out and sure enough Lieutenant Garcia’s computer runs Linux http://criminalminds.wikia.com/wiki/Penelope_Garcia check under “Notes”

And you get exited by it. That IS sad.
Maybe “excited” wasn’t a good choice of word but I agree it is sad nonetheless but it’s good to see Linux getting a mention as obscure as it is, strangely enough I got equally irritated with Dexter where every computer was a Mac, every laptop was a Macbook, and every mobile phone was an iPhone, I’m sure Apple had a stake in that show
Look closely and you’ll see Linux all over the TV … every time they want to make a computer look like it’s actually doing something complex, it’s Linux
This team is the best they are smart cookies and they always get their man, and smart cookies need smart computers so the inference is if you want the best it’s got to be Linux, unlike all the Apple devices featured on Dexter which was obviously just a form of stealth marketing
Garcia can also do absolutely everything by tapping one ring finger on the spacebar too whilst holding a pen … now that’s pure computer genius, wish I could do that :o
The spacebar is pretty much the only key she ever hits, and she does it repeatedly, and with gusto

for a “true geek/nerd hero or heroine it has to be (lfs )linux from scratch” but then some “ncis” show things on screen and then see the old m$ screen in reflections
