Asus Eee Screen Width (SOLVED)

A friend somehow removed the system tray on Peppermint 5.

Have got that back to normal but the screen display is about an inch missing on the right.

Cant get this back to normal screen size.

If you want to reset the bottom panel to defaults, run:

cp -vf /usr/share/lxpanel/profile/Peppermint/panels/panel ~/.config/lxpanel/Peppermint/panels/panel

then log off/on.

As for the missing screen real-estate is it just the panel, or all the way up the screen ?

is the picture compressed, or is a bit of the picture “missing”, or is the image “off centre” ?

What resolution is set ?

what model of EeePC ?

System tray has been re-set …its fine.

White bar about an inch wide top to bottom on right of screen.

Picture complete but compressed.

Resolution: 1024/600

Model Eee PC 1000 HE

Have booted this on live USB and screen is normal on Chromium.

Jocklad

Why did you mention Chromium … is this just a Chromium issue ?

Thats what I was wondering Mark…Is it Chromium.

Could try a Re-install of Chromium…?.

Jocklad

If you boot peppermint, is the screen compressed even before you start Chromium ?

Yes it is.

Jocklad

Not chromium then.

What happens if you log off, then log on to the “Guest” account … is the screen compressed ?

Screen is displaying normally in Guest account

Are you able to drag an open say file manager window onto this white stripe ?

and does the bottom panel go all the way across the screen ?

Yes you can.

Have just found a Gedit file in the file Manager home folder which may relate to this .

Going to log onto the Forum from the other computer.

Jocklad.

Does the bottom panel go all the way across the screen ?

Can you take a screenshot and upload it to somewhere like

http://imgur.com

then post a link here

The system tray is fine…As normal along the bottom.

Jocklad

OK, I’m lost here … is it JUST chromium ?

have you tried hitting the “maximise” button in chromium, or is it already maximised ?

with Chromium closed, Will other applications maximise all the way ?

does the wallpaper fit the whole desktop before you open Chromium ?

have you tried hitting the “maximise” button in chromium, or is it already maximised ? Yes…makes no diffrence

with Chromium closed, Will other applications maximise all the way ?..No

does the wallpaper fit the whole desktop before you open Chromium ?..No

Jocklad

I just installed Firefox from terminal and opened it.

Its exactly the same.

Looks like the problem is not with Chromium.

Jocklad

Can we try something here

run:

mv ~/.cache ~/.cache-old

then log off/on

any change ?

[EDIT]

I’m pretty sure the problem is with pcmanfm’s handling of the desktop

Still the same Mark.

Jocklad

Does the normal right-click menu work on the desktop ?

Yes it does
