Do you want to write software for the UK’s latest frontline fighter Augmented/Virtual Reality trainers for nuclear submarines or Typhoon and Hawk jets? Are you interested in integrating software into high fidelity cockpit or tank training systems, or developing Air Traffic Control simulations that allow student controllers to “talk down” jets and train for emergency situations? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Software Engineer at our site in Hillend.
As a Senior software engineer, you will generate software for high fidelity crew/operator compartments where high levels of training immersion are required, applying them in the fields of aircraft and submarine maintenance training.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with team members and support the team and/or project leadership in daily activities. You may also be asked to lead teams of up to 10 engineers. You may also be required for help diagnose problems and solve internally and customer reported issues.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Engineer will involve:
Ownership of requirements, design and implementation, and test to a high standard, within schedule and estimates
Generation and management of requirements
Design of technical solutions
Software development of those solutions
Testing involved in verifying the above
Adherence to project processes and software development practices
Accurately reporting on progress and providing feedback to team members and leadership Supporting
System Test and Integration Activities
Production of technical documentation
Estimation of development activities
You may also be asked to lead teams of up to 10 engineers
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Experience of working to defined and structured engineering lifecycle processes with formal gate reviews and a culture of measurement and continuous improvement
Good understanding and experience of the full software development lifecycle, from requirements & design through to delivery
Desktop-based applications in C#/C++ or Java
Windows O/S
Desirable:
Simulation modelling techniques or Graphics technologies (e.g. Unity) would be advantageous
An honours degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant STEM subject, although relevant knowledge and experience may offset the qualification requirements

Salary: £44,840 + dependent on skills and experience
