Battery power time left incorrect on Dell Latitude running Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon

I am running Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon on a Dell Latitude 7480. I recently installed a new battery from Dell. However, after charging, the battery life shown in ‘Power statistics’ varies from something like 10 hours remaining to 1 hour almost minute by minute. Any ideas anyone? The battery itself lasts well but it’s just the statistics which vary.

I vaguely remember having a similar problem with a Dell Latitude many years ago and if I remember correctly there was a section in the bios to tell the system there’s a new battery installed, I might be wrong about this it’s a long time ago and I no longer have that laptop to check it out, but it may do no harm nonetheless to have a look in the bios to see if there’s any clues there
