OVERALL ROLE PURPOSE
The post holder will be responsible for generally overseeing the engineers supporting all aspects of the Administration, Maintenance and Support of the Operational Support Systems installed the National Grid’s three Control Centers and the Reference Network within the agreed scope with National Grid to meet defined timescale, cost & quality parameters.
Note: SC Clearance (or eligibility) is a mandatory requirement of this role. Also may be a requirement for other security based checks to be carried out to enable eligibility to carry out work on or access specific locations.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Skills and Experience)
• UNIX, LINUX skilled
• VMWare (Vsphere 4.0) knowledgeable
• SDH Network knowledgeable
• Is Linux knowledgeable
• HP Lefthand SAN Trained
• Technical understanding and experience of the following:
o OS (Unix, Windows, VMware)
o Scripting abilities
o Servers (HP, Dell, IBM)
o LANs and switching, particularly in a Data Centre environment
o Security (Firewalls and IDS)
o Infrastructure (racks, environmentals, cabling)
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written & verbal)
• Ability to work in a focused manner under pressure to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to produce quality documentation
• Risk management experience within a technical environment
• Analytical and problem solving skills
• Both self motivated and team player
• Attention to detail
• Adaptability and the ability to learn new skills quickly
• SC clearance is mandatory
• Valid / full UK driving licence
• Organised
• Professional
• Able to communicate both verbally and in writing with all interfaces
• Project delivery methodology
Desirable
• Experience of working within a CNI environment
• Working knowledge of relevant ISO security requirements
• IP WAN (based on MPLS and Ethernet technologies)
• Servers (HP, IBM)
Qualifications
• BSc/HNC Degree educated or equivalent experience
