this is not so much a problem as nuisance and it’s not really troubling me (well it is or else I wouldn’t be posting this) but it’s not a big deal, if you look at the screenshot you’ll see Cairo dock doesn’t hide away when an application is open but it only happens with the application on the screenshot (Mediaelch), earlier versions were ok, I posted this problem on the developers blog but didn’t get an answer, so presumably he didn’t know the answer, wasn’t interested or thought it was a stupid question.
So I thought i’d put it here and see if anyone has any ideas
if it’s any help I’ve copied this from the authors webpage
Qt5 and redesign
MediaElch 2.0 requires Qt5. OS X users will benefit from Qt 5.2 beta already (needed for Mavericks). Because Qt5 is only available in the official Ubuntu repositories starting with Raring there will be no packages for older Ubuntu releases. If somebody would like to package MediaElch 2.0 for older Ubuntu releases just let me know.
I have installed qt5 from synaptic and rebooted but it’s made no difference
The dock only minimises when it’s not in focus … does it autohide if you open Mediaelch, then double-click it’s titlebar (to un-maximise) the double click it again (to maximise) ?
What I’m wondering is if Mediaelch is for some reason opening “not in focus”, so the dock is still in focus … if you get my meaning.

I can only open and use Mediaelch full screen, if I open and minimize to taskbar then maximize it makes no difference Cairo Dock remains in view
Maybe it's because it's a KDE app .. have you got any other KDE apps installed, and do they do it ?
I had no idea it’s a KDE app generally I avoid any app that begins with a “K” due to the dependencies they pull down, so I’m not aware of any other KDE app I’ve installed.
From what I understand this version of Mediaelch underwent a huge rewrite from previous versions and this is the only version I’ve had this problem with, so I can’t help thinking that Mediaelch is the problem and not Cairo Dock, also I have an earlier version of Mediaelch installed on my Peppermint 3 partition and it works fine with Cairo Dock, so this is maybe something that’s not fixable for us
but KDE apps will be Qt, so I guess they’re “semi - interchangeable”.
I’ll take a look at this when I get time (unless someone else chimes in) … just don’t seem to have much time at the moment, why I haven’t been online as much for the last few days.

Don’t worry about it Mark it’s not really a big deal perhaps the next version of Mediaelch will fix the problem, it is quite aggressively developed so maybe not too long to wait
