Docky Docking (SOLVED)

Sorry Mark that didn’t work either, I also tried completely uninstalling as per post #11 and installing the .deb but still no joy :frowning:

Graeme

OK, I’ll keep diggin

Have you got anything else running on the desktop … conky/gkrellm for example

Nothing I’m aware of, I tried completely rebooting but that made no difference, is there perhaps another lightweight dock you know of I could use other than Cairo dock ?

Graeme

Not really.

Does docky not work on any of your Peppermint boxes … or just that one ?

Does docky not work on any of your Peppermint boxes .. or just that one ?

I only have it installed on Chloes PC, I use Cairo Dock on my PC and there’s no dock on my wifes PC, anyway I’ve given up on Docky and tried Cairo Dock on Chloes PC which is fine except it will only recognise and dock one SSB icon ie she has 4 SSB icons uptoten. coolmath, chloes email & story books, but it doesn’t matter what SSB icon I drag into the dock it will only dock it as coolmath, I’ve also tried dragging from ~/.local/applications and it makes no difference.

sometimes there’s just no winning

I’d be interested to know if docky works on your other PC’s

If it doesn’t it’s liable to be something I have installed that you don’t

if it does … then we can look into why Chcloes is different

I’lll try it on a couple of other machines here too tomorrow.

OK I installed Docky on my PC (PM4) and it’s doing exactly the same thing

OK, I’ll try to reproduce it tomorrow on a fresh(er) install … I’ve got a ton of stuff and tweaks installed on this one now.

No problem take your time

Many thanks

Just as a matter of interest, what graphics cards are on those 2 machines:

sudo lshw -C display

No mad rush tonight … but post them when you can.

Not rushing you Mark but here’s the graphics info you can deal with it at your leisure

My PC

OK, I’m using the i915 driver currently … so it’s unlikely to be a driver issue … that’s one thing ruled out

Just gotta track down what my netbook has installed that yours doesn’t … I’ve a few ideas, but pointless speculating.

I tried 15 desktop icons and they all worked with drag and drop.

Is this a 32 or 64 bit system…

Are you using any weird theme on anything ?

or are you using any non standard compositor settings, etc.

Maybe it is something to do with SSB icons. I move 8 icons from the desktop to Docky with no problems.

Could it have something to do with composting. I know that if this is not running on your computer then some aspects of Docky do not work.

I’m guessing Emegra has compositing switch on in Window Manager Tweaks … otherwise Docky looks horrible.

I can’t for the life of me reproduce this

You’ve probably already tried this, but just in case …

Drag an icon to docky, but before releasing it, move it to a different position in docky … THEN release it … does it stick ?

I’m having this issue with 2 PC’s both 32 bit running PM4

I am using a non stock theme on my PC (alba cloud) that I downloaded from gnomelook.org but It’s just a stock theme on Chloe’s PC

I’ve tried many variations but I’ll try what you suggest when I get home from work

Yeah I’m certain I have compositing switched on both PC’s it’s definately switched on my PC I know that because I use Cairo Dock on that PC and it needs composoting for transparency etc, and I can drag and drop into Cairo Dock no problem.

Would it tell us anything if I switched compositing off and tried that ?

Many thanks

Graeme

When you drag an icon to docky … do the icons already on docky seperate to alllow you room to drop it ?

Yes and a small message pops up saying “drop to add to dock”

I don’t understand why no one else is having this issue and I’m having it on 2 PC’s so here’s a short video to show I’m not losing my marbles
