Error message when mobile is plugged in (SOLVED)

Sorry it’s me again! :-[

I plugged my mobile in today to import some pics and I keep getting the following error message:
Unable to mount SEMC HSUSB Device. Error initialising camera: -53: Could not claim the USB device.
I have no idea what that means but I do know I cannot import my pics, I get this error message.
Could not perform the operation Error getting file: -1: Unspecified error.

I have a Sony Xperia U ST25i. Should I be querying this with Sony or my network?

Which version of Android are you running on the Phone ?

Is there a “Mass Storage mode” at -

Settings > Xperia > Connectivity > USB connection mode

on the phone ? … if so, select it, then try connecting again.

I’m putting this link here for future reference (in case the above instructions don’t work, and we need to try MTP mode)

I’m on version 2.3.7
Under USB connection mode it states MTP only for internal storage.

Should I just follow the instructions on the link you’ve included?

NO … not yet … I’m still doing homework on this :slight_smile:

It may be easier to set up your phone for wireless transfer without the USB cable … I’ll get back to you.

OK Tanya, let’s give this a shot … step by step :slight_smile:

Open a terminal and run:

sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs

Now connect the Xperia by USB cable, then send the output from these 2 commands:

mtp-detect | grep idVendor

and

mtp-detect | grep idProduct

If this doesn’t work (or indeed if you’d prefer), another option may be to install the free AirDroid application to your Xperia … make sure your Xperia is connected wirelessly to your local network … start AirDroid on your Xperia … then connect to it from within your web browser.

AirDriod is supposed to be able to read and quickly send messages, browse / download / upload files, preview photos, import or export ringtones, music and lots more … all from within a web browser on any PC on your local network.
(can’t say I’ve tested it … no android phone … but it gets good reviews)

The first option wasn’t successful, it was very sluggish and I think that may have stopped it from working correctly.

The AirDroid app works very well and once I got the hang of it is easy to use.
