I gave up smoking yesterday, and successfully managed my first 24 hour period without a cigarette in about 35 years.
Struggling a bit this morning, but sticking to it … so if I get a bit tetchy with anyone … TOUGH!!!

Well done. Stick at it.
You’re always grumpy anyway.
Thanks
You're always grumpy anyway. ;)
Oh good … you’ll probably not notice then … and I thought I was going to have to put some effort in

Well done Mark
I smoked for 30+ years tried everything to stop patches, gum, cold turkey you name it I tried it and failed miserably everytime then I tried electronic cigarettes and I’ve never looked back not had a smoke in nearly 2 years and about £3000 up not to mention the health benefits
Keep it up & good luck
Graeme
Yeh, good luck Mark, just think of all the extra problems you can solve now that you don’t need those nicotine breaks
Thanks for the support folks
Yeah I’d tried patches and gum before and failed … this time I’ve managed to get the NHS to give me both patches and that new nicorette spray for when I get an overriding urge … and I’ve gotta say that spray seems to do the trick, pretty horrible after-taste but within 1 minute or so of spraying I forget that I had the urge in the first place.
So fingers crossed…
Just gotta hope I can get off the nicotine replacement comfortably too.
With the money you save , you’ll be able to buy that shiny new smartphone you’ve always wanted
I packed up 35 years ago, so I’m sure you’ll do it.
Congratulations.
I stopped in August. Hammering the gum, but off the fags. It’s glorious. Hang in there.
(Had a lung function test today (being asthmatic, they’re mandatory) - got the best results in 5 years.)
Congrats to you too, and fantastic … you story gives me hope I can succeed as well
Get a stress toy or two - good for stress (duh!), but keeps your hands busy too
I think it was Noel Coward who once said “stopping smoking is easy I’ve done it hundreds of times”
Anyway hope your last fag’s your last fag
So far this spray is working wonders (at least on top of the patches) … Every hour or so I want a ciggy that strongly I think I’m gonna fail … quick spray, and I forget all about it.
As I said, I just hope I can wean myself off the spray and patches … which if I wasn’t getting them on the NHS would probably be more expensive than smoking :o
It would be stupid for me to suggest the spray would work for everyone, hell it’s too early to say it definitely works for me, but so far so good

Good luck with quitting smoking. As I have never tried smoking, I cannot imagine what you are going through. Just hang in there.
Luckily both my sons have the sense you have
Thanks for the support
