hi everyone,at first i was a little nervous of ditching a certain operating system of which will forever remain nameless, and move on to linux mint,my previous post was of needing help with the audio that would sometimes work or not with linux mint latest version, also mint would run better than the nameless operating system although not as fast as expected on my old laptop compaq CQ 58,however this old laptop was not running right in the first place, so to load linux on it and expect it to fly was totly unreasonable on mm part being just a general pc user.i then thought about buying a brand new msi mini pc,but as luck would have it my grand daughter gave me her laptop a hp notebook 15-bs1xx which was made in 2018,and has a i5 intel-8250u cpu, with 4 gb of ram i loaded mint onto this machine, and it ran rather well,so i have decided to keep this laptop, and forego buying the new mini pc,which obviously is saving me a bit of cash.a few days later i decided to spend out on a new sata 3 ssd,and 16gb of ram,so i removed the old 1tb hard drive, and ram, fitted both new elements without the old hard drive, loaded up with mint, booted up,and wow what a performance curve.its not blistering fast but fast enough to be a pleasure to use,and mint is,well just so enjoyable to use over the un named one,no anoying adds no anoying nags,in fact no annoying anything,so like the devil i say begone unamed one never to return.all i can say is that i am so glad there are alternative operating system out there, thank you guys.
Hi Maddog.
I am very pleased tat you have found a satisfactory solution.
Welcome to Linux!

Hi, yeah that spec should be pretty nippy. These days the memory, storage and graphics tend to be far more influential on desktop performance than the cpu. My laptop is an i3 with 6G ram dating back to 2010 … still does everything I need , (although more ram would be nice)
