How the **** are they going to enforce that ? … if I encrypt something then transmit it, how can my carrier be expected to be able to supply its contents unencrypted if asked ?

Ok, well, I can see hurdle # 1 for them … they have to know the communication is there to be able to request an unencrypted copy of it.
One of DARPA’s design goals for the Internet was to develop a system with so much noise that sensitive information could be transmitted / exchanged relatively unnoticed. We now have lots (and lots) of noise, so what makes the World governments think that they or mere ISP’s can subvert DARPA’s original intent?
After watching Mr Robot and analysing the “holes” in some of the tech, I’ve been experimenting with an implementation of a “ssh” server that doesn’t show up in “netstat” as a listening port and whose traffic isn’t visible to “tcpdump” and doesn’t appear in system logs. I’d be interested to hear how exactly they plan on detecting such “ssh” communication …
That was kinda my point … they can’t possibly be employing advisers that stupid can they ? … in which case you have to think it was never about terrorism or crime (they’ll always find a way around it because it’s in their interests to do so), but purely a legal device that’s ultimately about spying on Joe Average and his business, and data mining the population as a whole.

Using computers to spy is NOT a new idea, in fact it’s a very mature industry that from its inception has been government lead and steeped in secrecy.

I don’t know if you fellows think this is related- to me it kind of is- the subject of enforcing ads on us whilst browsing. I of course have ad blocker on Firefox. If I surf anywhere else I am shocked at how many ads pop up. I personally think it is the right of internet users to browse without being bombarded with ads.It’s one of the reasons I barely watch itv player as they force you to turn the ad blocker off, or even listen to the radio. I DESPISE advertising- it is very aggressive and the stuff they want to sell is often useless sh*t.
And a very weird thing keeps happening to me when I am using my aol mail- even tho I have ad block a side bar flashes up to the right saying “you are trying to view an online casino”- is there any way I can prevent this? My brother had a severe online gambling problem which cost him his life, so this sort of thing I do not want popping up.
If you mean you use AdBlock+ (ABP)…
Two things may be happening here
a) the casino advertisers have paid AdBlock+ to be on their whitelist
and/or
b) it conforms to their “acceptable ads” setting, and you have this enabled
and/or
c) the advert is in a format that ABP can’t clip
For (a) does any method to refuse the ad appear if you hover over it ?
For (b) disable “acceptable ads”
For (c) try something other than ABP, such as Ublock Origin:
