OK, sorry then but I’m out of ideas … my system has no problem with hpmudext and it’s in the right place on your system, so I’m lost.

The only other thing I can suggest is going back to the original hplip (3.11.7) by removing those 2 lines you added to ~/.bashrc

gedit ~/.bashrc

Rebooting.

then running:

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

Thats got you back to where you started

Then making sure NO printers are set up AT ALL … ie. delete all installed printers.

Then starting again.

If that doesn’t work, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait till hplip 3.11.10 makes it into the Ubuntu repositories or a PPA.

It would be a good idea to go back to original setup again while you wait.

Every now and again I’ll look for a PPA with hplip 3.11.10 and if one appears I’ll post back to this thread.

Another option would be to move back to Ubuntu 11.04 and install hplip 3.11.10 in that … that should hopefully work, as the problem seems to be due to the new path to 64bit libraries in 11.10

Thinking about it … 11.10 32bit would probably not have this issue either.

I’ll give all that a go tomorrow.
When I installed Ubuntu 11.10 I had my Photosmart 320 and D5460 connected via USB and the Deskjet 3070A was connected wireless as thats how it was set up in Windows, I forgot to connect it via USB. The first two printers installed fine but not my 3070.
I think, as you say, un-install ALL my printers and start again would be the best.

When I binned Windows, I went straight to V11.10.

I’ve un-installed my printer & disconnected them.
Next thing is, when downloading the ‘hplip’ file, I am curious, I have 2 different printers, one is the Deskjet 3070A all-in-one and the other is a Photosmart D5460.
The selection gives me choices as to what I want to download, the 2 printers are on different options, does that matter?
It’s asking ‘Printer Type’ and ‘Printer Model’, do I need to go through the file selection twice to download each one? If not, which one do I go for?
Also, the OS versions don’t go up to mine, V11.10, only V11.04.

Nope you only need one … but the 11.10/11.04 thing is what I’m on about … 11.10 is too new ATM and too different in it’s library paths.

have you checked if the one that comes with 11.10 will work with your other printer ? … at least for now.

As I said you may have to wait a bit whilst hplip catches up with Ubuntu 11.10

And… now no printers work!
How do I clear the printers from it?

See if you can delete then through the CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) interface … open a web browser and in the URL address bar enter:-

localhost:631

Then in the CUPS interface go to Administration (tab) > Manage Printers … and see if you can delete them in there.

I’ve managed to do it. I’ll now have a go at installing the printers.
Also… Thanks for the help you’ve given me, I’d have no idea what to do if it weren’t for you.

Ive sorted it. I have my printers installed but still don’t have the scanner working, tried the program and it couldn’t detect it.

I found this while on the HP Linux website…
So… my 3070a scanner should work…
