I couldn't offer much, but...

Hi,

First of all, I realise how cheeky this is.

Is there anyone who would be willing to take on setting up my home network (using the old hardware I’ve collected and basing it round a Tranquil PC server box that’s about six years old) and sorting out my commercially hosted webspace, which includes an owncloud installation, a wordpress blog and an email server?

I have been trying to do things in my spare time with code academy, forum searches and help desks and I am in a muddle. There’s some sort of random block on my webspace that Wordpress forums say MUST be a host’s firewall but my host company says is my ISP’s fault (my ISP say they’ll get back to me), I’ve got MPD set up on the home server but made a mess of setting a static IP address, so it’s not a lot of good.

Believe it or not, I’ve used Ubuntu as my main OS for six years now. That might explain my over confidence and the hubristic state to which I am reduced.

I know linux techs earn big money and take on really interesting projects, and that’s as it should be. It’s just that I’m going to have to give up on it all if I don’t get some professional help. All the IT companies on the Isle of Wight go grey when you mention linux.

We’d talk money and stuff, but it would be what a community tutor’s (that’s me) fun money can stretch to.

I just thought I’d put it out there.

It might help if you said where in the world (approximately) you are.

Have you asked your local LUG (Linux Users Group) for help?
