so i would like to import pics taken with my android phone using a usb 3 charging cable with a usb c plug to phone cable.so i will plug in phone using the charging cable which is usb c,and attempt to connect said phone to my pc running linux mint only.
some reserch suggest shotwell to do this?am i on the right track please.
I have done it in the past and always had issues … notably it’s different for different phones, and it’s inconsistent … you can upgrade your phone to find it stops working or works differently.
Instead, connect your Android phone to your Google account. Turn on “sync”. Wait a bit. Then check your “google photos” account and you’ll find all your photos.
To get all these to your computer, you can obviously download one at a time, or you can export selected (or all) the pictures to your Google Drive, then connect your desktop file browser to Google Drive, then just drag and drop the picture archive onto your desktop.
You can point shotwell at the folder you’ve copied stuff into and it should automatically import everything for you.
There are non-Google alternatives, or it may be they’ve “fixed” the USB mechanism for now, but …
