Right currently trying to get to grips with this, but I’m kind of puzzled.
In the documentation it says:
The external and internal network cards cannot be on the same subnet.
Now, the net-mask for the laptop is 255.255.255.0 so would I then configure the net-mask for the NAS to be 192.168.0.1 to point to the router or how does this work?
I’m running the laptop via wlan0, and trying to connect the NAS by eth0.
I’m still a rookie when it comes down to a bit more advanced things like these. I know how to set-up static IPs, DMZ on the router and setup firewall rules… just need to re-read everything I read in that “Networking for Dummies” guide.
Right from what I understand from that document page I need two network adapters, which I have.
wlano - Wireless card, this is the adapter connected to the internet.
eth0 - Ethernet card, this is the adapter connected to the NAS.
The part on which I’m confused at, is which one do I setup first? My lappy or the NAS?
The lappy is currently setup to use ICS the GUI way. It work for the Xbox360 no problem, but I guess there is a conflict somewhere seeing as the NAS runs on the older Ubuntu 9.10. Correct?
Can’t install later versions because I’ve got no P/S2 keyboard to select the “English” language during the installer. Otherwise I’d have Server 12.04 Beta 2 on it.
Yeah I can connect to the net fine, t’is fast as well.
Unless there’s a way we can mod the installer to notice my USB keyboard on boot up of the LiveCD, then I’ve no chance.
But don’t blame me if it all goes horribly wrong, and you are left with an unbootable system … though you could always put Karmic back on I suppose … or get a USB keyboard
Never tried if I’m honest, but funny you say that. I came across a sweet little program called PLoP that lets users boot from a USB stick even if their BIOS doesn’t support it. Think I’ll try it out.
I really to make things hard for myself, but I guess learning the hard way is the best way. It’s good for the brain anyway, haha. Probably not for my health. :
I do indeed have a Floppy drive. Well when I say “have”. I took it out, and put another hard-drive in its place, but I can easily put it back in because the hard-drive isn’t showing up anyway. .
