Laptop Ubuntu fail

Hi.
The lid on my laptop got slammed shut last night. It was opened and all seemed ok it was still working. It got shut down now when it is started I just get " error: no such partition.
Entering rescue mode
grub rescue>

What can I do. Can I rescue it?

It sounds like slamming the lid down might have caused shock damage to the HDD, I would try booting with a live usb or CD then post the output of

fdisk -l

Dose this mean I have lost everything on the HHD

Edit,
this is a duel boot laptop with windows. I would normally have the option of Ubuntu or windows and I dont at the mo.

I doubt it … boot the LiveCD/LiveUSB and post the output from:

sudo fdsk -l

and

sudo blkid

Sorry typo … that first command should have read

sudo fdisk -l

That said, the output from blkid is suggesting there are NO Linux partitions on the hard drive … have you removed Linux :-\

Please post the output from the command above

Which version of Windows is on this drive ?

and do you have a Windows recovery disk ?

That should be a lower-case [b]L[/b] for [b]list[/b] option

It may be that something has been unseated - memory stick is a common one… What make and model of laptop is it? As much info as possible would help?

Laptop is Acer Aspire 5755G
i7-2670QM 2.2Ghz
8Gb Ram DDR3
Nvidia Geforce GT 630M 1GB
500GB HHD

It came with windows 7 64 bit and I partitioned the HHD and installed Ubuntu 12.04 and later updated to 14.
I made the recovery disk when it was new. but dont know it they are to recover or just reinstall windows.
I did not use windows much, mainley used ubuntu, all the main things I want back are on the ubuntu partition.

I will reply with the output requested when I get back home and on to my lappy.
