LIBRE OFFICE - how big? Urgent

OK, dya wanna try Libreoffice 4 again, or openoffice ?

Maybe you can give me all the instructions, and expected output, and I’ll yell if I have any problems.

Did they change anything from 1 month ago? Yes they changed the depository I first used and apparently second isn’t complete. Unless you know another.

Lets try Open Office.

OK, what happens if you run:

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-writer

?

I have no repositories for it now, but I think I did before.

Eh … openoffice-writer should be in the default 10.04 repo

IS it in Synaptic ? … if so install it … not the whole openoffice, just writer

This is what happened before we did all this cleaning: Are we in a new world now?

---- Removed libre-writer. Tried installing openoffice.org-writer, got this:
Oh, gotta add that PPA- that gets purged too?

root@mak4-laptop:/home/mako4# apt-get install openoffice.org-writer

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
openoffice.org-writer: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.4) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-base-core (= 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.4) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: openoffice.org-emailmerge but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: openoffice.org-math but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

OK, run:

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-base-core openoffice.org-emailmerge openoffice.org-math openoffice.org-writer

Any errors ?

[edit]

Theres’ a PPA with LibreOffice 3.5.7 for 10.04 if you’d prefer to try that ?

Checked Open Office writer and got same:
unresolved dependencies (make sure needed repositories are added and enabled ):

openoffice.org-writer:
Depends: openoffice.org-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-base-core but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: openoffice.org-emailmerge but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: openoffice.org-math but it is not going to be installed

See above

If it could install the OOo core, etc… it would have, n’est pas? So it needs another repository for OOo. I think.

Sure whats the ppa for 3.6 Libre, though I looked at it and seemed to have a bunch of bugs, probably less than what I had since it MADE to work with 10.4

Have you tried the command ?

No, I’d rather try Libre 3.57

OK, fire up synaptic, and remove the repositories for libreoffice-4

then send the output from:

for APT in `find /etc/apt/ -name *.list`; do grep -o "^deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/[a-z0-9\-]\+/[a-z0-9\-]\+" $APT | while read ENTRY ; do USER=`echo $ENTRY | cut -d/ -f4` PPA=`echo $ENTRY | cut -d/ -f5` ; echo ppa:$USER/$PPA ; done ; done

done
ppa:transmissionbt/ppa
ppa:tualatrix/ppa
ppa:anonbeat/guayadeque

run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-3-5

then

sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get install libreoffice-writer

DOne- haven’t run it yet.

Got a few warnings. Are these crucial?:

Seems OK. Thanks very much. Is the program updatable from inside it?

Is there a way to save the packages, so one doesn’t have to download them again from places that don’t have them? Like I could have done with the original or the OOo

Not as far as I know no

Is there a way to save the packages, so one doesn't have to download them again from places that don't have them? Like I could have done with the original or the OOo

Erm, yes, but you’d have to make sure you downloaded all the dependencies too (if any), and installing them may not be too easy

Theoretically you could clone the PPA, but my advice would be to switch to at least 12.04 or if you don’t like Unity, Mint or Peppermint as soon as possible … up to date software is going to get harder and harder to find for 10.04, and you’re no longer receiving security updates.

OK. Where are they- are they downloaded to one place? Figure if you just dump them back in that place, it will see them on subsequennt installation, not download them over, and also get any dependencies needed. Cause I want the space.
