Could anyone on the Forum please advise me whether it will be possible to successfully install and use a “124 db SNR / Headphone Amp Card for Audiophiles” with Linux as my operating system.
I am not a high-powered ‘techie’ so simple responses will be highly appreciated!
Thanks!
Yes, drivers for the Asus Xonar Essence STX cards have been included in ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) since version 1.0.20, and kernels >= 2.6.30, so should “just work” on any recent Linux distro.
But there’s nothing to stop you downloading a LiveCD, or even better creating a LiveUSB to take Linux for a test drive and testing the card works prior to installing to the hard drive.
If it isn’t an Asus Xonar Essence STX, check the manufacturers page at alsa-project.org:

for your card… then make sure the Linux distro you are thinking of using has either the kernel or alsa version (or greater) listed for your card.
