Interesting article on the BBC site. The team that made the Nokia N900 left Nokia and have made a phone. The BBC, as relentlessly dishonest as ever, have an article on this story where they completely fail to use either the word Linux or the words OpenSource, but still manage to mention Windows.
I’d read a little about sailfish, but didn’t realise they doing actual hardware too
I already know about Sailfish. Nokia were going downhill in 2011, scrapped MeeGo and went with Windows Phone for smartphones to replace Symbian. As a long Nokia fan, I waited for the first Lumia and got it. It was okay-ish not really that good. By 2012 though, everything went from bad to worse for Nokia and I really wanted to buy the new Jolla phone powered by Sailfish. BUT, the new Lumias are simply awesome and I love the new WP8. Everything’s gone good now for Nokia! I won’t be getting the Jolla now, I’m staying with Nokia’s phenomenal Lumia 920 with WP8. Sorry, Linux!
Hi Homers, and welcome to the forum
I’ll bet Microsoft (and Nokia) will be glad to hear SOMEONE likes WP8 … Phone them up, maybe you’ll get some kind of award for being in the first ten users

Hello.
What are you on about? Do you actually know that WP8 is the fastest growing smartphone OS? They’re becoming more common too: about 6 months ago, I barely saw anyone with a WP but these days they’re much more common. Android sucks. It’s a resource hog and is horribly slow on cheaper devices - plus it’s laggier. WP is smoother, more efficient, it looks brilliant and has Live Tiles. Looks like Microsoft have a winner or future potential now. No offense to Linux fans - I actually loved Maemo on the N900.
Yup, qiute easy to double the figures from 10 … but you still only have 20
BTW, I’m only pulling your leg … but you were the one that thought it would be a good idea to make your first posting on a Linux forum one in which you appear to promote Windows over Linux ??? … in reality, use whatever suits you best
Until your other topic, I thought you were just trolling … hell I even checked your IP against Redmond

We might be on different planet. I know of exactly 2 people whom bought Nokia phones with WP8 and both are regretting it.
The press are not exactly fans either. See here
@ SeZo … I went looking for that exact article to post and couldn’t find it
2 people eh … Wow, you personally know 20% of Microsofts mobile market share

Haha… I bookmarked it (just in case I need it later) 8)
Oddly I thought I had too … for exactly the same reason
God help the next iOS fan that comes on here … bookmarks at the ready.
You can go to YouTube videos showing comparisons between the new Lumias and other phones. Notice in the comments just how much people adore WP and Lumia more. The people who got Lumias adore it - I am a super proud 920 owner and my friends love it too. Instead of the boring same icons on iOS and the copy-cat Android and its homescreens, what I have is something different, something more innovative. Beautiful, moving Live Tiles, with Nokia’s brilliance of design, durability and camera. Now that’s what I call a champ!
The only problem is, the smartphone market changed so rapidly between circa 2009 and 2012 that Android and iOS became major market leaders. WP arrived late to the game, and it only became decent with WP8. Many people haven’t tried WP8/Lumia yet because of the other two, but once you do, you’d love it more than anything else.
Don’t forget that Lumia sales were a record 5.6 million in Q1 this year - which is AFTER the Christmas season (where sales would usually drop). It may be a long way from the giants but both WP8 and Lumia have high future potentials, and have you ever heard of the word PROGRESS?
And oh… it overtook BlackBerry last month! — Windows Phone overtakes BlackBerry to claim third place in 2013 smartphone shipments - The Verge
Lol. I’m a lifelong Windows user BUT I respect Linux and tested Mint, Ubuntu and Debian on Virtual PC today.
Whichever suits me best? Windows XP. Having used Windows my whole life it’s obviously more easier for me to use than any Linux distro. Sorry to say this!
And you even checked my IP? Hah. Well, TBH, I hate Windows 8 on PCs (unless it’s touch), and I have PlayStation 2 and 3 instead of a Xbox - so there you go I’m not an Microsoft fanboy.
All that proves is WP8 users are vocal on youtube …
There are a lot of people that reckon ANYTHING with the Metro interface shouldn’t be viewed as progress :o

And yet here you are …
Metro is very bad for traditional keyboard and mouse PCs. It’s awesome on smartphones.
And the main reason I’m here is because I needed help with testing out Linux today!
Still pulling your leg
Not everyone’s happy with their WP8/Lumia 920:

I was just trying to prove that WP is actually good and better than you’d expect. Well if you don’t than I’m okay with that - that is if you’ve tried it at least.
Regarding that article, of course any platform can suffer from problems. The chances of WP8 and iOS suffering is much lower than Android.

You based that on what? ???
