If you really want to replace Mint With Peppermint … the installer should do that for you … it should offer to “Replace Mint”
That said, I’d be more tempted to just use gparted from a LiveUSB to delete all the Linux partitions … then install Peppermint to the free space.
[EDIT]
Something else to be aware of … if installing Peppermint “Alongside” another OS … start the installer from the Live session desktop icon.
(not from the boot screen “Install Peppermint” option … see the first item in the release notes for why)
There are lots of reasons why people choose the distro they decided to use.
Do not let Mark persuade you otherwise, he has got a wested interest in Peppermint.
Give Mint a shot. You can change the login screen appearance along with behavior to suit your liking.
Go to Menu > Administration > “Login Window” to open this window “Login Window Preferences”.
Play around with the settings.
Mark, just pulling your leg
I know you would not recommend Peppermint if you did not believe in it.
On the other hand, now that you are one of the developers…
If Peppermint goes off track, that could change … but at least this way I get a chance to try make sure that doesn’t happen, along with the fuzzy feeling of having contributed a little
I suppose in some peoples eyes that’s already happened … some are happier with PM3 … I guess any changes the team make will be loved by some hated by others, but you can’t stand still either … tiz a weird line to find yourself stood on, that’s for sure.
Luckily the vast majority seem to like the new version … so far, reviews have all been very positive
To be honest my first impressions of Peppermint 4 are not that positive I’ve had a few problems particularly with networking, connecting printers etc but it’s early days and I can accept my problems could be me or my hardware or a combination of both,
but I was using my old laptop last night (still running Peppermint 3 ) and it reminded me how trouble free P3 has been for me compared with it’s successor
Mint 15 has been a complete waste of time for me. Logins require several clicks of the icon before password and the damn thing will NOT shut down. I waited 20 minutes looking at the flipin Mint icon before deciding to wipe all partitions with GParted and install Peppermint 4.
Peppermint 4 is amazing everything just works out of the box it’s a huge improvement on Peppermint 3 and I can see no point in anyone using any other distro, and all the developers (especially PCNetSpec) should be given a knighthood
